Dental implants in Orpington

An implant replaces the root of a missing tooth with a small titanium post. A crown is fitted on top, so the new tooth looks, feels and works like your own. Implants can also hold a bridge or secure a loose denture.

Could implants be right for you?

Implants are worth talking about if:

  • You have one or more missing teeth
  • Your denture slips or feels uncomfortable
  • You want a fixed tooth that doesn’t rely on the teeth either side
  • Your gums are healthy, or can be treated first

Not sure? A consultation will tell you whether implants, a bridge or a denture would suit you best.

What happens, step by step

Most of the time is healing. You’ll only need a few appointments.

  1. Consultation and 3D scan

We check your teeth, gums and bone, then take a 3D CBCT scan here at the practice. You leave with a written treatment plan and a full quote.

  2. Placing the implant

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic. Most people say it feels easier than having a tooth out. We can talk to you about sedation if you are nervous.

  3. Healing

The implant bonds with your jawbone over about three to six months. You won’t be left with a gap while it heals.

  4. Fitting your new tooth

We fit a custom crown, bridge or denture, matched to the colour and shape of your own teeth.

  5. Looking after it

Brush and clean as normal, with regular check-ups and hygienist visits. Well cared for, implants can last for decades.

Common questions

Does it hurt?

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain during treatment. You may be sore for a few days afterwards. Over-the-counter painkillers usually help.

How long does the whole treatment take?

Usually four to nine months from consultation to your final tooth. Most of that is healing time, with only a handful of appointments.

Am I too old for implants?

There is no upper age limit. What matters is your general health and the bone in your jaw. Many of our implant patients are in their seventies and eighties.

Are implants available on the NHS?

Only in rare cases, usually after mouth cancer or a serious injury, and through a hospital. At The Lindens, implants are private treatment.

Can I spread the cost?

Yes. You can pay in stages as treatment goes ahead, or spread the cost with a finance plan. We’ll explain the options at your consultation.

What if I don’t have enough bone?

Your 3D scan shows us exactly how much bone you have. If more is needed, a bone graft can usually be done first or at the same time.
